RICHARD J RAMIREZ JR
PRODUCTION DESIGNER
ART DIRECTOR / SET DESIGNER
With 30 years experience in the Entertainment Industry, I have worked on a variety of projects from commercials, infomercials, multi-camera situation comedies, one-hour episodic television to feature films. I believe in an open exchange of information and strive to create a truly collaborative environment in my art department. I believe the design should serve the script, the director, and the producers, all within and on time and within and on budget. I have a background in theatre and architecture and am well versed in period styles, script breakdown, character development through visual means, as well as visual and special effects.
I hold a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Film and Television Production as well as a Masters in Theatre with an emphasis in Design. I am a member in good standing of the Art Directors Guild, Local 800 as well as an active member in the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. I am well versed in current technology including Computer Aided Design with VectorWorks and AutoCAD as well as rapid 3D pre-visualization utilizing SketchUp.
I have an extensive knowledge of location selection, modification and restoration as well as scheduling and budgeting. I am extremely organized and have a thorough understanding of script breakdowns, production scheduling and production needs. I pride myself on my ability to deliver to the needs of the script and am able to work within any schedule and any budget. My design concepts and execution on Switched at Birth were never compromised due to scheduling and budgetary constraints. While working with the Producers and the Writers, I was able to deliver a show with feature quality sets on a cable budget.
I am an avid runner and believe a fit body and a fit mind compliment my ability to deliver whatever I am tasked to design. I was raised the son of an Army officer and have traveled extensively. My first hand knowledge of almost every state in the United States as well as various countries around the world compliments my research abilities.
